Wavelet-based analysis of interplanetary magnetic field and AE-index

IMF Bz and AE-index data are the important parameters characterizing interplanetary magnetic field change and energy accumulation in the Earth magnetosphere. The paper describes the processing of these parameters and estimation of their correlation. The processing is based on wavelet transform apparatus. Correlation coefficients were obtained for different wavelet bases. In order to estimate the changes in IMF Bz and AE-index, a measure for their intensity was introduced. For different time periods we calculated the intensity and determined the time period with the highest value of the correlation between IMF Bz and AE-index based on Daubechies 3 wavelet basis. The estimate of the obtained correlation coefficients showed their statistical significance
