Calculation of Seismic Regime Parameters of Kamchatka Region

    A short description of the study results of seismic regime for Kamchatka region is presented. This research was carried out by traditional methods for the period of instrumental observations which have been carried out since 1962. As it was shown in the papers [1,2], seismic regime may be studied by probabilistic methods applying an earthquake catalogue for their analysis [3]. In the present paper on the basis of a probabilistic interpretation of the earthquake repetition law, simple formulas were obtained which allow us from the known number of earthquake events in a representative interval of energy class (magnitude) to estimate the number of seismic events falling within an unrepresentative interval and to estimate the expected time of an earthquake with a magnitude exceeding the maximum registered values for the period of instrumental observations.
