Researchers of IKIR FEB RAS made presentations at the All-Russian Conference with International Participation “Radio location in geophysics and radio physics”

All-Russian Conference with International Participation “Radio location in geophysics and radio physics” was devoted to the 90-th anniversary of investigation of the ionosphere in Russia. It is generally accepted to consider June 19, 1936 as the main date of the beginning of regular ionospheric investigations when total eclipse of the Sun took place in Tomsk. From that data, regular ionospheric research began at a Tomsk ionospheric station (first one in the USSR and fifth in the world). Kessenikh V.N. was the founder of the investigations and the founder of the Radio Physical Faculty and the Scientific School on Ionosphere Physics at Tomsk State University.

The Conference was organized by the National Research Tomsk State University and the Scientific Council of the Physical Sciences Department of the Russian Academy of Sciences on radio wave propagation supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and Russian Academy of Sciences.

The presentation was made on the subject “Results of application of the method for linear extrapolation of whistler dynamic spectra recorded in Kamchatka to determine electron concentration in ionosphere-plasmasphere system” by the Scientific Secretary of IKIR FEB RAS, Marchenko Ludmila Sergeevna and the Chief Researcher of the Laboratory of Physical Process Modeling, Dr. Sci. (Phys.-Math.) Parovik Roman Ivanovich.

Natural electromagnetic radiation in the frequency range up to 10 kHz is continuously recorded at Karymshina observation site (IKIR FEB RAS, Kamchatka). In terms of the analysis of the dynamic spectra recorded there, their nose frequency and limiting variance were estimated. Based on them, electron concentration in ionosphere-plasmasphere system was determined.

To process spectral data, linear extrapolation method was applied. A software complex, realizing the mentioned algorithms, was developed. The obtained values of electron concentration at the height of 1000 km agree well with the data of the IRI model. Whistlers recorded in Kamchatka were classified. Detailed information on the Conference is presented here.
