The Leading Researcher of IKIR FEB RAS, Dr. Sci. (Phys.-Math.) Smirnov Sergey Eduardovich made two presentations at the 18-th International Conference on Atmospheric Electricity (ICAE 2026)

The event, devoted to the development of science on atmospheric electricity, took place in Barcelona (Spain) on July 13-17, 2026. Topics in the following scientific fields were discussed: physics of lightning and its interactions with meteorological processes; microphysics of thunderstorm cloud electrification; lightning impact on middle and upper atmosphere and others.

Smirnov Sergey made two presentations: 1. "Fair weather criteria and the morning convective electric field generator" about the basic principles of atmospheric electricity measurements; 2. "Atmospheric electricity and ionospheric effects of the volcano eruption" about a complex of effects in atmospheric electricity and ionosphere caused by Shiveluch volcano eruption in Kamchatka. Many effects were discovered for the first time during volcanic eruptions on the planet. The both presentations aroused keen interest and discussion among the Conference participants.

ICAE conferences take place once in 4-year period. The next event will take place in Mexico in 2030.
