Practical training of a magnetologist from Khabarovsk Geophysical Observatory (GPhO)

Charsov Danila, an engineer from Khabarovsk GPhO (Zabaykalskoe, Khabarovsk kray) of IKIR FEB RAS , was on a two-weak practical training at Paratunka GPhO on March 10-21, 2025. The main task of the training was to master the technique of making absolute magnetic observations on the Mag-01H DI-magnetometer and processing the results of magnetic measurements according to INTERMAGNET standards. During the training, the young magnetologist got aquatinted with the process of the Earth magnetic field monitoring, applied magnetometers and software at Paratunka GPhO.

Much attention was paid to the process of making absolute observations, which are carried out by hand only and are the important function of INTERMAGNET network observatories. During the two weeks, Charsov Danila mastered the method of making observations and obtained qualitative results. In future, Danila will increase his knowledge level by regular observations at Khabarovsk GPhO. Discussions of different aspects of variation magnetic measurement processing, maintenance of the required facilities and peculiarities of the magnetic monitoring on the whole with the Head of Paratunka GphO, Cand. Sci. (Phys.-Math.) Khomutov Sergey, were very important. Quite often, these issues are within the personal experience of magnetologists and are unavailable out of direct communication.

Danila is sure that the experience, which he obtained during the practical training, will help him to realize the magnetic measurements at Khabarovsk GPhO according to INTERMAGNET standards.

During his stay in Kamchatka, Danila got aquatinted with the researchers from other branches of IKIR FEB RAS and with scientific and applied results of their work. It was unforgettable for him to go on the excursion to the historical places of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatksiy and to visit the Khalaktyrskiy beach of the Pacific Ocean coast.
