XIII International Conference «Solar-Terrestrial Relations and Physics of Earthquake Precursors» has completed its work

Based on the plan of meetings, conferences and workshops approved by the Ministry of Science and Education of the Russian Federation, the Institute of Cosmophysical Research and Radio Wave Propagation, Far Eastern Bruch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKIR FEB RAS), Kamchatka, held the XIII International Conference «Solar-Terrestrial Relations and Physics of Earthquake Precursors» on 25-29 September 2023.

Two hundred and five researchers participated in the Conference, including the scientists from China, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Check Republic, Hungary, Mongolia, Belarus Republic, Taiwan, India, USA, Switzerland and Kyrgyzstan. Thus, the Conference has the international status.

A delegation from China, headed by Prof. Tao Chen, visited the event. The Chinese scientists presented reports on the basic investigation directions within the Conference themes. Colleagues from the Belarus republic made the presentation on magnetic measurements carried out at Pleshchenitsy observatory (Minsk).

The plenary section reflected a wide range of the subjects. Work results on the topical directions in solar-terrestrial physics, geosphere processes dynamics and earthquake precursor physics were discussed at the Conference. These directions are: solar activity impact on geospheric processes, geophysical fields and their interactions, dynamic processes in the atmosphere, radiophysics and acoustics of energy-active regions, modeling of geophysical processes, technology of data collection and analysis in helio-geophysical monitoring systems, seismic activity impact on geospheric processes.

During the 5 days of the Conference, 5 plenary, 54 sectional reports, 9 of which by young researchers, and 27 posters were presented.

   Conference decision:

    1. Unite the efforts of the researchers from different organizations on ground-space monitoring of geophysical fields and space weather parameter analysis.

    2. Apply to the Russian Academy of Sciences to make a request to the RF Ministry of Science and High Education for a grant to support the unique Russian network of geomagnetic observatories, located in the Far East of Russian and in Siberia, and to continue the work of the secular trend site network aiming at controlling the magnetic pole shift into the Arctic eastern sector.

    3. Continue the work on unification of the methods for processing and storage of the monitoring data on geophysical fields in the lighosphere, atmosphere and ionosphere.

    4. Continue the works in the direction of investigation of intensive magnetic disturbances and thunderstorms, including thunderstorms with high-power lightning and volcanic thunderstorms affecting technical systems and their interactions with geodynamic processes.

    5. Publish the selected reports of the Conference participants in Springer Proceedings Book and in a special issue of Bulletin of the Kamchatka Regional Association Educational and Scientific Center (KRASEC). Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

    6. Post the presentations of the participants on the Conference site.

    7. Hold the XIV International Conference «Solar-terrestrial relations and physics of earthquake precursors» at IKIR FEB RAS on 22-26 September 2025.
