This work is devoted to the study of stability of thin current sheets in the Earth’s magnetotail. Linear
and nonlinear regimes of a tearing instability of the current sheet is investigated.The inﬂuence of current sheet
embedding on the development of the tearing mode instability is evaluated. The comparison of theoretical
estimations on current sheet stability with experimental observations in the Earth’s magnetotail was carried
out.
