Regional electron content in the Baikal Rift zone

A large amount of works, devoted to the ionosphere response to local phenomena, which has appeared recently, requires a more detailed analysis of the regional features of the ionosphere. In this paper, the analysis of the regional electron content (REC) in the area of the Baikal Rift zone is carried out applying global maps of the total electron content. The REC dynamics in 1998-2010, as well as annual, semi-annual and 27-day variations are analyzed. The changes in the diurnal variation amplitudes in 1998-2010 are presented, as well as the dependences of the diurnal variation amplitudes on the level of solar radio emission flux at the wavelength of 10.7 cm. For comparison, REC data at analogous latitudes in the European zone, as well as data on global electronic content, are given.
