Wavelet analysis of the Earth's magnetic field data

During increased geomagnetic activity, variations of different frequency spectra and periods are observed in the Earth's magnetic field data. The local structures are determined by field disturbance and carry information about magnetic storm intensity and nature. In the paper, numerical solutions and algorithms based on wavelet transform are proposed to study temporal features of magnetic field variations on the example of H-component. The algorithms make it possible to determine periods of increased geomagnetic activity, identify the structures forming this process, and perform their analysis in automatic mode. The detected components, characterizing disturbances, make it possible to estimate the changes in field energy characteristics. The analysis of the constructed wavelet images allows us to trace the dynamics of H-component changes before a magnetic storm and during its development.
